Dad's Army

Four classic episodes. One unforgettable evening.

Berwick Musical and Theatre Society proudly brings the beloved BBC comedy Dad's Army to the stage at Northern View, Spittal.

Adapted for theatrical performance by the TV Series authors, David Croft and Jimmy Perry, this production features four of the most popular episodes from the legendary series, bringing Captain Mainwaring and his platoon of unlikely heroes marching back into action.

Our show includes performances of the following stories...

The Deadly Attachment
Widely regarded as one of the greatest episodes ever written, the platoon is tasked with guarding a captured crew from a German U-boat while awaiting a military escort. As tensions rise and plans go awry, audiences can look forward to the immortal comedy moment that gave Britain the legendary line, "Don't tell him, Pike!"

The Floral Dance
The platoon finds itself taking part in a traditional Cornish-style Floral Dance, with military dignity quickly giving way to comic chaos. A showcase for the physical comedy and eccentric characters that made Dad's Army a national treasure, this episode is packed with laughter from start to finish.

The Godiva Affair
With Walmington-on-Sea raising funds for a Spitfire, the platoon volunteers to perform at a carnival celebration. However, it is the identity of the mysterious Lady Godiva—rather than the fundraising itself—that becomes the talk of the town, leading to one of the series' most memorable revelations.

Mum's Army
Captain Mainwaring decides that the women of Walmington-on-Sea should be recruited to help the war effort. What begins as a sensible wartime initiative soon descends into confusion, rivalry and embarrassment as the Home Guard discovers that organising a platoon of determined ladies is far more challenging than facing the enemy.

To make this production even more special, Northern View will be transformed into a wartime Victory Celebration venue, capturing the atmosphere of VE Day and the joyous spirit of Britain at the end of the Second World War. Audiences can immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and community spirit of the 1940s before enjoying an evening of classic British comedy.

Whether you're a lifelong fan who knows every catchphrase or discovering the Home Guard for the first time, Dad's Army promises nostalgia, laughter and a wonderful celebration of one of Britain's most cherished sitcoms.

Berwick Musical and Theatre Society - They may not be Britain's finest fighting force, but they're guaranteed to be one of its funniest.
